The St. John the Evangelist George R. Carlino Scholarships
In order to promote and foster the faith of our young people in the one true Church founded by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the Roman Catholic Church, two $1,000 scholarships will be available to two graduating seniors from St. John’s Parish, who have been accepted to a college, university or trade school.
–The applicant must be a Confirmed, practicing Catholic, i.e., attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation and have fulfilled their Easter Duty.
–Write an essay of not more than 1000 words on the following topic: The sainthood of Blessed Carlo Acutis. Who is he? What was his Catholic life like? Describe his website and summarize one of the events he highlights. Was there anything unusual about his death? What is his significance to us in this day and age?
These scholarships are made available through the late Mr. George R. Carlino, who was a very prayerful and devout parishioner of St. John’s. Mr. Carlino was concerned with the spiritual welfare of the parish’s young people, in an age that can be so challenging to the principles of our Catholic faith.
