The Mustard Seed Soup Kitchen of Worcester, Massachusetts, provides a hot meal for those in need. Each day of each month, a Catholic parish cooks and serves this meal to nearly 200 homeless and needy people of all ages. At Saint John’s, we are blessed to participate in this most rewarding Christian service.
On the last Friday of each month, members of Saint John’s Parish prepare, cook, and serve this dinner. Volunteers are needed to:
a. Prepare the meal – 9 to 11:30 a.m. – in the parish center kitchen. No experience cooking for large groups is required.
b. Monitor the ovens – 1 to 4 p.m. Food preparation is completed about 11 a.m. One or two volunteers then cook the food, which includes monitoring the ovens and heating the vegetables.
c. Serve the meal in Worcester – 4 to 6:30 p.m. Volunteers meet at the parish center, load the food into cars, and “caravan” to the Mustard Seed in Worcester to serve the meal.
Without the generous monthly financial donations of St. John’s parish, we would not be able to prepare this hot meal at the parish center, and serves it to those in need at the Mustard Seed in Worcester.
