The St. John the Evangelist George R. Carlino Scholarships

In order to promote and foster the faith of our young people in the one true Church founded by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the Roman Catholic Church, two $1,000 scholarships will be available to two graduating seniors from St. John’s Parish, who have been accepted to a college, university or trade school.

–The applicant must be a Confirmed, practicing Catholic, i.e., attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation and have fulfilled their Easter Duty.

–Write an essay of not more than 200 words on the following topic:  Cardinal Raymond Burke’s nine-month novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe. What is the novena about?   What are the reasons Cardinal Burke has put forward for this novena?  Are the reasons compelling?  Why Our Lady of Guadalupe?  Is this novena worth praying?

These scholarships are made available through the late Mr. George R. Carlino, who was a very prayerful and devout parishioner of St. John’s.  Mr. Carlino was concerned with the spiritual welfare of the parish’s young people, in an age that can be so challenging to the principles of our Catholic faith.

Please click HERE for the application form to accompany the essay. Applications should be sent c/o Debbie Lysik, St. John the Evangelist Religious Education, 20 Church Street, Hopkinton, MA 01748, and are due by April 30, 2024.
